PROGRESS IN FY24
• Kansas City PBS continued its contract with Dr. Victoria Haynes, who specializes in DEI training in the
workplace and supports the station by working with staff to design and track DEI goals and initiatives.
• In FY24, Kansas City PBS held its annual DEI workshop and published a quarterly staff newsletter

highlighting the work of our Staff DEI Council. DEI workshops range from implicit bias training to
lessons on microaggressions and understanding the realities of systemic racism. The quarterly
newsletter helped reinforce the lessons learned during each workshop and other supplemental
training sessions.
• Kansas City PBS fostered
meaningful conversations within the organization by facilitating monthly
“lunch and learn” opportunities led by Dr. Haynes and organized by the Staff DEI Council.
• In FY24, Kansas City PBS implemented staff engagement opportunities, including a Redlining Tour
event with over 30 staff participants. The opportunity sparked vulnerable conversations about identity,
race and culture — opening new doors of understanding within our organization.
• Kansas City PBS’ HR staff identi昀椀ed new opportunities to support a diverse staff by accepting
recommendations from the DEI Staff Council and reviewing HR and hiring policies.
NEXT STEPS
Expand DEI Training and Engagement Opportunities
• Continue offering staff DEI workshops, and broaden the topics covered in “lunch and learn” sessions
to include guest speakers from diverse communities and local organizations, helping staff connect
DEI efforts with community insights.
Strengthen Recruitment, Hiring and Retention Efforts
• Continue reviewing HR policies to ensure inclusivity, with a focus on recruiting practices, equitable
hiring protocols and retention strategies.
• Develop mentorship opportunities and resources tailored to underrepresented staff members,

creating supportive networks that foster a sense of belonging and offer professional development.
Deepen Community Engagement and Partnerships
• Facilitate more community-focused events that align with the station’s DEI values, furthering staff
awareness and connection to the Kansas City community.
• Build stronger partnerships with local organizations, educational institutions and other nonpro昀椀ts
serving diverse communities.
