90.9 THE BRIDGE
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Pride
Throughout the month of June, The Bridge turned it up for Pride Month, amplifying the
voices of LGBTQIA+ musicians and standing in allyship with the community. This year’s Pride
celebration included highlighting several Kansas City artists who identify as LGBTQIA+,
including Pom Pom Squad, Lava Dreams, True Lions and Calvin Arsenia.
Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Paci昀椀c Islanders
Heritage Month
During the month of May, The Bridge asked Asian and AAPI community leaders to contribute
songs that made them feel seen, heard and af昀椀rmed. The Bridge contributor Nicole Dolan
crafted a cross-genre playlist that included everything from R&B to metal rock.
Sound Minds
As part of The Bridge’s Sound Minds Day of music and mental health, four teenagers from
Kansas City-area schools were brave enough to share the story of their mental health
journeys on 90.9 The Bridge. Elise, Roxas, Kripa and Ariel opened up about their involvement
with Zero Reasons Why, and Jared Avilez, outreach coordinator with Johnson County Mental
Health Center, discussed the link between music and mental health and how music can help
regulate our emotions.
Hispanic Heritage Month
The Bridge celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month to commemorate the cultural and societal
contributions of Hispanic and Latinx Americans. In 2023, the station explored the history of
Latinx music and presented a special edition of Identities + Soundtracks — where area artists
and musicians tell us about the songs that make them feel heard and seen.
